Amantha: Your home was a 1928 Spanish, and it was much bigger than we thought we ‘d ever desire– the plot was a whole acre. Coming from Georgia, I was constantly consumed with the concept of essential California midcentury architecture, so this was a huge departure. But your house had that local color. It had a presence that was warm and undeniable.Nick: Amantha inherited a lot of furnishings from her parents. We required assistance integrating it. And Tamar and I were friends in college, so I’ve understood Tamar forever. There’s something about working with someone with taste, but it’s truly special when that individual also has a deep relationship with you and understands your situation on a personal level. Before the fires took their home, Amantha Walden and her husband Nick Weidenfeld were happy item collectors. The workplace housed nostalgic books, family pictures, classic toys, and individual keepsakes. Laure Joliet Tamar: The important things I remember most when I first checked out was how the house and the land exposed itself in spirited methods. It was a three-story Spanish home on a big parcel, set on a small hill. Inside, it had a lot of magnificence, you understand; it was showy. And when I think about how Nick and Amantha live, there’s not an outward-facing style perceptiveness. It’s a lot more about cultivating a type of heat. Nick and Amantha had such a beautiful collection of things, so things were layered in different areas.Nick: The way I see our interest in style is that everything has a really personal point. It’s less about consistency of period or time, and more that there’s a consistency in sensation and emotion.Tamar: We needed to unify whatever within the context of the house, to let the house develop a little bit of a standard and not have it feel so diverse that it was chaotic.

“We spent most of our time in the living-room,” regrets Walden.”It was so unique due to the fact that a great deal of it was created particularly for this home: Tamar designed the sofa, and the table was made from a piece of marble we found. One of the leather club chairs was vintage; Tamar had a reproduction made to produce a pair.”
