Our first cultural institution in New York is a brand-new addition to the New Museum next door to its renowned SANAA-designed structure at 235 Bowery. The New Museum has actually been growing in visitors, exhibitions, and activities. Its diverse engagements, including its expansive education programs, its cultural incubator NEW INC, and, obviously, its internationally acknowledged exhibition program have been changing the institution into a cultural lab. We were asked to include a brand-new structure that provides much-needed area for its expanded activities and at the same time reflects progressively public aspirations– duplicating the program and square video footage on a website instantly surrounding to the existing SANAA-designed structure– part and counterpart, side-by-side.
