The task is developed for the Budapest Capital Asset Management Centre, acting upon behalf of the Town of Budapest. The style outlines a 15-year plan to change a brownfield website long regarded as the city’s “rust belt,” located on the eastern side of the Hungarian capital. The regrowth strategy includes over 10,000 apartment or condos, new transportation links, and commercial and civic spaces, forming an extensive city redevelopment technique aligned with 15-minute city concepts.

It also proposes the renaturalization of the Rákos Stream as a winding waterway, with public area along its improved banks formed by available terraces, courses, and rest locations. Beyond rewilding, these parks are meant to activate public life throughout 6 brand-new sub-districts, each with its own character and linked through a continuous loop of public spaces. Each district is developed as being anchored by its own metropolitan center, echoing the structure of neighborhoods in Budapest’s historic inner city. Coldefy Budapest Masterplan Competitors. This second park includes meadows, event spaces, and a central lake. The existing Rákosrendező train station is reimagined as a multimodal center that anchors the masterplan’s central metropolitan district and connects to a prolonged city line, a brand-new tram line, and a network of active mobility paths. The upgraded station links the eastern and western sides of the site while positioning the location within Budapest’s regional and long-distance transit network. A strong focus on public transport is anticipated to support the production of largely car-free property streets and squares, countering car-dependent advancement patterns.

The proposal likewise includes the adaptive reuse of former train buildings and depots as a cultural center, incorporating a community library and a train museum. In front of the Rákosrendező station, a new plaza functions as a year-round civic area for markets, cultural occasions, and public events, featuring new trees, water aspects, and shaded locations. This city core is intended to transition into mid- and low-rise residential areas structured around a network of vegetated areas on both sides of the railway. The surrounding area accommodates a high-density mix of workplaces, hotels, retail, and services. Beyond the Rákos Stream, a fragmented landscape is reconfigured into an available sports location with outside fields, leisure centers, and an additional metro station. The project was highlighted by the competitors jury for “a habitable residential environment” and “the exceptional quality of its public area system.”
