An urban forest plan for New York City was released today by the Mayor’s Workplace of Climate and Ecological Justice (MOEJC).
Created and developed by WXY, the forest strategy is important to assist cool New york city as temperature levels increase from global warming, and neutralize historical inequities in lower-income communities that have less access to shade.
The strategy has three aspects: It’s a roadmap for maintaining existing tree canopy, planting more trees, and cultivating stewards of New york city City’s city forest through homeowner engagement and educational programs.
In each of these three paths, WXY outlines 3 to five techniques to make them occur. The document consists of a total of 43 private actions for public agencies, personal partners, and neighborhood stakeholders to think about.
Actions consist of developing clear leadership for tree management citywide, designating a “management position” that will be responsible for handling the plan’s rollout, and simplifying contracts for tree planting and upkeep.
