GINZA SIX MELDS ART AND URBAN LIFE IN TOKYO
GINZA SIX progresses as a dynamic cultural platform where art and urban life clash. Under the assisting theme ‘From the Ginza to the World’, the hub provides top-level sensory stimulation with an international creative exchange. The intervention including the contemporary artist Julian Opie debuted on September 11, 2025, marking the very first time a dynamic, movie setup has actually ever existed within the structure’s main atrium, which was designed by Gwenael Nicolas of Interest. This large-scale, drifting LED installation, called ‘Marathon. Females.’ welcomes visitors to experience immersive art while shopping.

IMMERSIVE
JOURNEY INTO CULTURAL ENGAGEMENT
The principle ‘From Ginza to the Word’, places GINZA 6 beyond standard retail, establishing itself as a cultural hub. Through curated site-specific cooperations with world-renowned creators, the facility incorporates cultural engagement and sensory stimulation, placing art at the center of the visitors’ immersive journey.
Within ‘Marathon. Females.’ Julian Opie brought a sense of dynamism into the central atrium, debuting his first ‘drifting’ LED setup. The artist, who has actually long been fascinated by how art interacts with its surroundings, reimagines the business void as a digital intervention. Motivated by British female sprinters, the work records the rhythm of human motion to naturally incorporate with the structure’s day-to-day pulse.

The visuals are shown on both sides of the screen, making the work viewable from numerous viewpoints across four floors (2F– 5F) and making the most of the spatial volume. Opie established the concept through extensive VR simulations, using LED signage as a ‘wonderful language’ that allows for fast reading and a sense of normality.
Central to its story is the dynamic fictional human act of running reverberating throughout the space, which creates a feeling of movement that blends with the aesthetically busy stores and crowds. The installation adopts a rectangle-shaped instead of circular type, mirroring the structure’s own geometry. Unique colors distinguish the seven runners, while their varying speeds orchestrate an unlimited race around the atrium.

Broadening upon the atrium task, two additional works inspired by Opie’s very first visit to GINZA SIX in fall 2025 happen from April 10 to June 30, 2026. Found at the GINZA SIX Garden (rooftop) and the 1F entryway, both jobs explore the theme of ‘Walking Kids’. At the 1F entryway, the British artist presents his first use of ‘fit together LED’, an innovation that allows animated figures to be predicted onto a transparent surface, letting the minimalist figures blend effortlessly into the real-world cityscape. On the other hand, ‘Strolling Kids’ changes the rooftop garden into an interactive play ground including sculptural works modeled after 20 kids of different ages. Together, these setups reinforce GINZA SIX as an immersive metropolitan landscape where fine art is lived and breathed by everybody who passes through.
