D+N 2 Home is a property extension in Tangerang, Indonesia, designed by DP+HS Architects to support an existing home previously finished by the very same practice. Conceived as a secondary structure devoted to leisure, the task accommodates a swimming pool, sauna, lounge, playroom, and basketball court. The design explores the duality of enclosure and openness through a compact architectural envelope that shelters a generous internal space. Daylight gets in the building through a skylight system equipped with layered screens that temper sunshine and develop moving shadow patterns. Passive ecological strategies, consisting of cross ventilation and evaporative cooling, are incorporated through the placement of water functions and air flow elements. Entry begins with a low and narrow passage that compresses scale and creates a moment of tension, similar to a cave opening. This compression paves the way to the significant release of the double-height pool location underneath the skylight.
