The client’s quick called for a comfortable contemporary home that could endure the harshest of seasons while negotiating the density of the surrounding pine forest and blending smoothly with its surroundings.

An easy barn form captured our eye for its economy of expression and its shown capability to handle the regional conditions– heavy winter season snowfall, intense summertime sun– and became the generative idea for the exterior. photos © Michael Burn Pre-weathered cladding and an extremely insulated wall building and construction guarantee the structure is as hardwearing as it is considered. photos © Michael Burn Screened patios are woven into the structure volume, producing a carefully managed intermediate zone between interior life and the surrounding forest. Inside, a series of interlocking spaces draws light in from above the canopy, with a primarily white interior finish amplifying that light. Chosen locations of oak to walls and cabinetry present warmth, stabilized by hardwearing basalt stone.
