Developed as a firmly stacked volume embedded within the hillside, the task changes a tough topography into a dynamic, spatially abundant living environment. The design uses a layered architectural technique of carving, maintaining, and bridging to negotiate the terrain. The garage is recessed into the hillside, forming a strong base for two levels of living area above. This approach permits the structure to recede into the slope, where a series of keeping walls create a private rear terrace– an unexpected outside room carved from the earth and protected by the surrounding landscape. This reflective condition provides a peaceful counterpoint to the more open, street-facing exterior. A bridge extending from the 2nd floor links straight to the upper part of the website, sewing the home into the hillside
and making it possible for smooth circulation in between the constructed environment and the natural surface. This gesture strengthens the project’s core aspiration: to integrate architecture and landscape as a constant experience. At the heart of the residence, a continuous skylight, aligned with views at each end, stair, hallway, and bridge, introduces daytime deep into the interior. This direct aperture develops a visual passage from the street-facing deck through to the rear balcony, improving spatial continuity and drawing natural light down through the blood circulation spinal column.< img src ="// www.w3.org/2000/svg%22%20viewBox=%220%200%20520%20346%22%3E%3C/svg%3E" data-src ="https://www.e-architect.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/slot-house-los-angeles-california-residential-development-a230326-p-520x346.webp"alt ="Slot House Los Angeles California realty project "width="520 "height ="346"/ > Main living spaces are arranged as open, streaming volumes that promote motion and layered views. Sightlines extend from the entry porch through the living and dining areas towards the private balcony beyond, liquifying limits in between inside and outdoors. Carefully positioned glazing frames views of the surrounding mountains and reservoir, while protecting privacy from neighboring residential or commercial properties.

Compact in footprint, yet expansive in experience, Slot House exemplifies ANX’s thoughtful response to complex websites. Through a mindful balance of openness and enclosure, direct exposure and haven, the job reimagines hillside living as a series of interconnected spatial minutes. Slot House in Los Angeles,
