JURASSIC in Chengdu is a themed interior environment created by SAKO Architects for the children’s flooring of an industrial shopping mall. Conceived as an immersive public realm instead of a standard retail level, the task draws inspiration from the scale and creativity of the Jurassic period. Through oversized forms, sculptural seating, and atmospheric lighting, the interior changes everyday circulation and shopping activities into an exploratory experience for households. Dinosaur-inspired concepts are abstracted into architectural aspects that assist movement, produce places of rest, and stimulate curiosity. The design incorporates retail units, public seating, and service locations into a cohesive narrative landscape, motivating visitors to stick around rather than pass through. By merging play, dream, and functionality, the task reframes the role of interior design in an industrial context, placing the shopping center as a social and experiential location for children and caregivers alike.

In one word, it is” theme.”In all my tasks, I develop a clear design theme and make sure consistency from the overall concept down to the smallest information to reinforce that style. The style serves numerous crucial functions. First, it functions as a design manifesto. By checking out deeply into the theme, I intend to accomplish results like “getting to this type of output” or “broadening the edge of style.”

The task approaches the children’s retail floor as a shared civic interior, in which architecture acts as an arbitrator between commerce and play. Instead of depending on used graphics or literal theming, SAKO Architects translate the idea of an ancient world into spatial and tactile cues that unfold slowly as visitors move through the flooring. Scale ends up being a main design tool, with aspects purposefully oversized to shift perception and location kids at the center of the experience.

At the heart of the strategy, a public zone anchors the flooring with sculptural benches shaped like dinosaur teeth. These objects work concurrently as landmarks, seating, and creative prompts, developing a rhythm of time out and motion within the open area. Nearby, large egg-like volumes offer enclosed niches where kids can retreat, enhancing the sense of discovery embedded in the general layout.

Retail spaces are dealt with as extensions of the narrative instead of separated systems. In the baby-goods area, ceiling-mounted lighting patterns are assessed the floor to suggest the presence of a massive, hidden creature overhead, subtly animating the environment without frustrating it. Smaller sized shops are contained within smooth white egg types, their interiors separated as stores and info points while keeping visual continuity with the broader principle.

Flow corridors are developed as transitional environments. A long passage resulting in the washrooms is lined with carefully curving, stem-like pipelines stressed by LED points that stimulate dew on foliage. Color-shifting wall lights introduce a progressive, climatic change, assisting visitors towards a more enclosed, reflective space. Within the bathrooms, these aspects broaden throughout the ceiling, creating a protected, almost deceptive environment that contrasts with the openness of the primary flooring.

JURASSIC in Chengdu/ SAKO Architects 20 Through cautious orchestration of type, light, and movement, JURASSIC in Chengdu demonstrates how interior architecture can cultivate psychological engagement within commercial settings. The project prioritizes memory-making and social interaction, placing style as an active participant in domesticity rather than a neutral background for usage.
