We are enjoying the anti-kitchen kitchen trend we’ve been discovering of late. Instead of installing monolith walls of built-in cabinets and big glossy devices, some designers are choosing to deal with the room more like a living or living room and selecting surfaces and furniture-like units to match.
A while back, Swedish cooking area business Nordiska Kök connected to us about such an aytpical cooking area, a recently completed task in a classy apartment in Stockholm’s Östermalm district. The customers, parents to three kids, desired the kitchen area to be the heart of the home, but moving it to the center meant it would now show up from both the living-room and the TV space. The service: minimize the basic features of normal cooking areas and raise its design so that it mixes in effortlessly with the other spaces.
Obviously, the space still needs to be functional. “We live a hectic life, the kids have lots of activities, and we often have pals in your home,” says the partner, an interior designer. “It was very important for us to have a natural gathering point in the house, where research and cooking can be done. We like to entertain, and my goal was to get a real kitchen island to be able to present food and drink to visitors who can then move freely in the apartment or condo.”
“We have actually remodelled all the homes we have actually lived in,” she continues. “It’s fun to see my own development as I end up being more bold each time.”
