Homes We Love: Every day we feature an amazing area sent by our neighborhood of architects, designers, builders, and homeowners. Have one to share? Post it here.Project Details: Area: New South Wales, Australia Photographer: Zella Casey Brown/ @zellacaseybrown From the Designer:”This home sits on flat land on the edge of a lagoon within a stones throw of asurf beach. It faces north, with panoramic views of wetlands, lime green pastures, and the mountains of the Great Dividing Range. The strategy, with its staggered massing and main spinal column, is personal to the street with the recessed garage contrasting the curved outside of the media space sweeping in to the main front door. Internally, the spine differs in height, punctuated by light shafts as you pass a series of bed rooms resulting in the personal primary bedroom suite and the northern garden balcony under the large cantilever balcony. The upstairs is gradually exposed as one big living, dining, and kitchen area, with a curved floating timber ceiling rising to the north, taking in the sun and views. Two protruding decks with a fully opening door configuration link inside and outside, while the large cantilever roof secures the northern glazed exterior. The drifting roof is supported on near-invisible round steel columns, creating a glazed light throughout the upper flooring. “The exterior and interior is all exposed white bricks, rustic long brick at the exterior and more refined internally, with the concrete structure exposed throughout. The geometric, curved roofing gently changes angle from the front to the rear carefully and is dressed in copper. Brass doors, windows, and railings react to the seaside condition of the website. Throughout the home, the stone floors are all heated electrically and powered by a big solar roof variety concealed behind the flat roofing on the street side and batteries in the garage. This, integrated with the double glazing and large roofing system overhang, responds well to the micro-climate of the South Coast. Carefully crafted by competent craftsmen in concrete, bricks, brass, copper, and tallowwood, the home is an extremely thought about action to an extremely unique place.”
