The Recinto Side Table, created by Liana Yaroslavsky, is a sculptural furniture piece from the Stress Researches Collection. It is defined by its expedition of balance, materiality, and the physical concept of stress. The table is a research study in ‘controlled balance’ where heavy, grounded elements are paired with fragile, translucent surface areas.

The table is defined by a monolithic product pairing that highlights the raw soul of volcanic stone: The table’s glass deepens while the stone remains grounded. More than a functional piece, the table is meant as a sculptural presence in a room. It makes use of the wider engineering concept of stress integrity. This concept utilizes a network of continuous tension (through glass positioning) and isolated compression to create steady and apparently drifting structures. The base of the side table is crafted from black Ricento, a thick volcanic stone that is cut into a low, heavy kind to offer a grounded structure. The tabletop comprises amber-tinted glass. Its style is intended to make the glass appear as if it is ‘kept in tension’ while capturing heat and light to produce a radiant impact. The table forces the viewer to reassess it through the lens of motion, rest, and reflection.

The most fantastic part of the Ricento Side Table is the glass. It isn’t simply a surface, it’s a lens. The glass picked has a particular thickness and tint of amber glass that captures ambient light. This turns the table into a light-clock. As the sunlight falls, the glass casts a warm, radiant shadow onto the dark, light-absorbing stone, making the still object feel like it remains in consistent movement.

The choice of the products represents a dialogue in between the grounded stone and the heat-catching, glowing glass that mirrors the designer’s individual journey of ‘roaming and returning.’ To the viewer, the glass seems drifting, but the volcanic stone holds it utilizing gravity as glue. The volcanic stone is left with its natural texture to improve the appearance and grip of the side table.

Showcased at the Special Design x Group exhibit in Mexico City, the side table is a visual and philosophical appeal, apart from being a structural brilliance.Ricento Side Table Image: Instagram/@atelier___lika
