Arabian Cattle ranches, the master-planned community on the edge of Dubai, sells Mediterranean and Spanish pastiche– the kind of terracotta-roofed villa that has actually ended up being shorthand for aspirational suburbia. Inside one of these houses, in the gated enclave of Savannah, Marie Claire Mrad has carried out something silently subversive. The interior designer gutted the area without touching the bones, moving an obtained European style language for something more disciplined: contemporary Japanese restraint.

Throughout the six-month remodelling led by Bull Contracting, there were no major structural changes. The arches and roofing tiles that as soon as indicated a Spanish villa now sit in stress with the monolithic interior. Where the neighborhood default relies on ornament to convey heat, this home rather uses proportion, rhythm, and the habits of light to bring the emotional weight.

Slatted partitions– duplicated in walnut and blackened wood– establish layered limits and filtered sightlines throughout the space, remembering the koshi lattices and shoji of Japanese architecture. In a desert vacation home, that logic likewise makes weather sense, regulating the extreme Gulf sun into something layered instead of obstructing it outright.

Ceppo di Gré stone anchors the floorings and surface areas together with concrete-effect ceramics. A few sculptural items include a table topped with Patagonia stone along with a bespoke lighting collection developed completely around Sahara onyx. What premises the task beyond looks is its craft economy. Nearly whatever bespoke, from the sofas and coffee tables to the entire lighting series, was designed for the villa and produced in Beirut by Lebanese craftsmens, with products sourced across Lebanon and Italy.
The owners’ own collection consists of an Eames easy chair, an Eileen Gray side table, a Michel Ducaroy Togo sofa, all of which settle easily into the restrained structure without disruption.
