As the city of Cincinnati comes to grips with a housing scarcity, planning authorities are advancing a program that will produce easily readily available pre-approved prepare for two-, three-, and four-family residential buildings. The job called BuildReady is hosted by the City Supervisor’s Office, Department of City Preparation and Engagement, Department of Neighborhood and Economic Advancement, Department of Buildings and Evaluations, and the Development Team. It is being funded by a $2 million PRO Real estate grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Advancement.

There are 3 parameters styles need to stick to, the city stated. The city is seeking designs that are “contextual,” indicating that they appreciate the context of Cincinnati’s neighborhoods; “achievable,” as in useful and economical; and “scalable,” as in possible for designers of all sizes to construct the homes efficiently.

Today the city of Cincinnati opened a Request for Information (RFI) to start off the program. Designers, developers, contractors, and engineers are invited to respond to the RFI with:

  • Information associated to experience and potential options relating to advancement of a design competition for middle real estate (2 -,3-, and 4-family structures)
  • Information relating to pre-approved prepare for middle real estate
  • Info associated to barriers to building middle housing in the personal real estate market
